“K-Pop Star Season 2″ Bang Yedam Signs with YG Entertainment

Posted: 28 Jun 2013 12:56 AM PDT

In addition to updates regarding G-Dragon and Taeyang‘s solo album, YG Entertainment has also made an announcement about “K-Pop Star Season 2” contestant Bang Yedam through the YG blog.

Bang Yedam follows fellow contestant Akdong Musician in joining the YG Family, having just completed all negotiations. With Bang Yedam’s entry in the agency, both the first and second place winners of “K-Pop Star Season 2″ are now in YG Entertainment.

In his announcement, YG Entertainment CEO, Yang Hyun Suk, compared Bang Yedam to a diamond, which “unlike gold, diamond is a stone which value depends solely on how it is carved or cut” [sic].  Yang Hyun Suk writes that he doesn’t know how long it will take for Bang Yedam to be “carved or cut,” -one year or even ten years- but he assures fans that YG will not spare any efforts to “help him shine like diamond” [sic].

Exciting news! Who is looking forward to seeing Bang Yedam debut (in the unforeseen future)?

YG Releases More Info On G-Dragon Album, Talks About Taeyang’s Solo Album

Posted: 28 Jun 2013 12:46 AM PDT

We previously reported that YG will update the fans everyday this week with news regarding solo plans of each Big Bang member. Unfortunately, one of their artist, Se7en, was caught by reporters visiting adult massage parlors while on military duty.

On June 28, YG Entertainment updated the company's official blog with the latest updates on Big Bang‘s G-Dragon's solo album and also introduced plans regarding Taeyang's solo album.

"I extend my apology for the delayed post."

What are the plans regarding G-Dragon's solo concert?

"G-Dragon is scheduled to hold a solo concert at Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena for two days on August 31 and September 1.

Technically, this will be G-Dragon's final encore concert for his world tour. At the concert, he will be performing his new songs from his 2nd studio album, which will be released on August 18.

Since he has been holding his world tour concerts for the last few months, he is not planning a new concert this year. Instead, he will be devoting his energy on his album work."

More details surrounding G-Dragon's August 18 solo album release?

"As you all know, August 18 is G-Dragon's birthday. But because it is a Sunday, a weekend, it would be difficult to release the song online.

To make it more special for the fans and G-Dragon himself, on August 18, he is scheduled to release the album on a TV music program and offline, while making the online release a little earlier, on August 14.

When will Taeyang release his album?

"We are thinking about the beginning of September for Taeyang's 2nd studio album. This is the first one in three years since his first solo album release in 2010.

Well, it's time to go now but I will come back tomorrow with more good news on the details of Taeyang's new album and also on the other members of Big Bang! Stay tuned!"

Ivy Donates All of Her Money Earned From Royalties

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 11:10 PM PDT

It's been recently revealed through her second mini album promotions that Ivy has been donating all of her earnings from royalties thus far.

Quite a few fans have already known that she goes by the name of The Lighthouse when she's credited as a lyricist. It was revealed previously that she wrote the lyrics for SHINee's "Last Gift" from its first studio album in 2008 as well as Girls' Generation's "Dear. Mom" from its first mini album in 2009, proving her talent. As both idol groups are popular with large, dedicated fan bases, it's not a question that she should receive a substantial amount of income.

She previously mentioned, "Just like how the name ‘The Lighthouse’ implies, I wanted to be a lighthouse that gives light to the world so I started this with good intentions. All the royalties received from the songs penned by The Lighthouse are being donated to good causes."

Meanwhile, Ivy is currently active promoting her latest track "I Dance."

4minute has released the music video for their latest single, "Is It Poppin'?

The new single is a catchy hip-hop dance song with a popping melody line. It is composed and written by Brave Brothers who also worked with 4minute for the group's previous mini-album title song, "What's Your Name?" “What’s Your Name?” turned out to be a quiet but powerful digital single hit, increasing the anticipation for the group’s latest track.

The music video is set at a nighttime party and shows the members having fun under the water sprinkler rain. Yes, it’s poppin’!

In related news, it was recently reported that KBS had deemed “Is It Poppin’?” to be unfit for broadcast, forcing 4minute to edit the lyrics. You can read the full story here.

4minute will hold their first “Is It Poppin’?” stage on June 30 on SBS’ “Inkigayo.”

Kim Gu Ra: “Akdong Musician Chose YG Because They Lack the Visuals For SM”

Posted: 27 Jun 2013 07:38 PM PDT

TV personality Kim Gu Ra, who is known for his blunt comments, has dropped another possible controversial comment.

On June 27, JTBC's "Ssulzun" aired an episode where the panelists discussed why "K-Pop Star" winner Akdong Musician chose to sign a contract with YG Entertainment.

Regarding the duo's agency choice, Kim Gu Ra mentioned, "To be honest, Akdong Musician doesn't really match with SM Entertainment. Their visuals are quite different from the other trainees there."

Announcer Park Ji Yoon, also part of the panel, added, "As for JYP Entertainment, Park Jin Young would give the artists songs. But, the group doesn't need his songs as they have been performing with their self-composed songs."
